Whether you need athletic or loungey undies, all are represented in the best boxer briefs for men we rounded up here.

It’s easy to write off underwear. And by that, I don’t mean going without — never do that, fellas (there’s a reason we’ve been wearing underwear since basically forever)! What I mean is that since no one really sees it, you may think it’s the last thing to invest in. Even the most discerning men will invest in a good peacoat and watch, then buy the cheapest boxers. It’s understandable, but it’s not the right choice. This is why I’ve rounded up the best men’s boxer briefs here.
Your underwear protects, supports, and sometimes even maintains sensitive body parts. Even more, bad underwear might affect the way your pants sit and fit on your person.
First, a quick primer on the different types of underwear. This way, you’ll know the benefits of boxer briefs over your other options. Of course, there’s a time and place for each. Let’s start with briefs vs boxer briefs.
Briefs vs Boxer Briefs

Briefs are a classic design of underwear that essentially just covers your pelvic area. They’re cut a lot like short speedos but sit right at the hip, just a bit below the waistline. Briefs are the shortest style of men’s underwear. This makes them ideal if you wear extra high-hemmed ‘60s style short shorts. Think Sean Connery as James Bond on the beach.
Boxer briefs are a lot like regular briefs in that they provide a snug fit. However, they’re longer, going down to your inner thighs. So, of course, they offer more coverage. They also typically aren’t as tight as briefs, though this depends on the model.
Boxer briefs do, in fact, offer more support than typical briefs. This is because the extended legs allow designers to work with the lap and seat areas. They can offer extra cupping or security since the leg area can act as an anchor.
There’s also a lot of talk on the internet about the relationship between underwear and fertility. I’m going to leave that between you and your doctor, though. I’m no expert on the matter! But it might be worth looking into.
Okay, next, boxer briefs vs boxers!
Boxer Briefs vs Boxers

Boxers, or boxer shorts, are looser than boxer briefs, though they could be the same length. Like boxer briefs, they can stop as short as your upper thigh or as low as your mid-thigh. Since they’re looser, they may have an elasticated waist similar to a drawstring minus the string slack. There are even drawstring boxers with string slack for tightening and tying.
Boxer shorts are a good option for those who chafe easily. However, they’re not great in the support department or keeping things in place. Moreover, if your boxers are too loose and your pants are too slim, the excess fabric of your underwear can cause chafing or discomfort.
My advice? If you have sensitive skin or chafe easily, you can also go for slightly looser boxer briefs made with materials that are good for your skin, like bamboo, modal, or silk.
The Best Boxer Briefs: Some Favorites

These are what I consider overall good performers. They balance function with comfort and, to an extent, style. Sure, no one is going to see your underwear, but it’s nice to know that everything on you is as flattering as it is practical. I consider these the best boxer briefs because they offer a little bit of everything.
SilkCut Boxer Briefs

SilkCut boxer briefs are functional and stylish. They’re cut from luxurious Micro Modal AIR, which is thinner and softer than silk. It’s often used for lingerie. Don’t let that deter you, though. They’re also quite durable, maintaining their color and shape for years.
Even more, it’s made from microfiber taken from beach wood, which makes it eco-friendly and sustainable. I’m sure part of the strength (and comfort) comes from the 6% elastane in the construction.
Hanes Comfortflex Boxer Briefs

If you’re on a budget, the Hanes Comfortflex Boxer Briefs, which are always quite cheap on Amazon, are for you. They’re super comfortable and incredibly durable for the price. I recommend buying a few higher-end pairs of underwear and padding your rotation with these.
You can also start with these as your foundation. Then, refresh or upgrade your underwear drawer as your budget allows.
Mack Weldon Silver HD Boxer Brief

Mack Weldon is probably my favorite brand when it comes to underwear. This Boxer Brief comes from their Silver line. Mack Weldon Silver focuses on anti-odor technology, premium fabrics, and infusing the pieces with performance technology.
As such, these boxer briefs are comfortable and luxurious and boast mesh cool zones. Between those zones and the anti-odor tech, these boxers are very literally fresh. You also have to love the color variations.
Calvin Klein Cotton Boxer Briefs

So many classic, heritage clothing brands haven’t kept up with the innovative practices of new brands. At least Calvin Klein isn’t one of those in the underwear department. These CK cotton boxer briefs are classics for a reason.
Calvin Klein has several boxer brief styles, including upscale synthetic versions. Their 100% Cotton Classic Boxer Briefs are a long-time favorite due to their comfort, longer rise, and working fly.
Pact Everyday Boxer Brief

The Pact Everyday Boxer Brief comprises 95% organic cotton and a touch of elastane. This means it has just enough stretch to be comfortable and mobile but is also naturally strong and breathable.
Pact is known for making high-quality, ethical basics. Its products are made in fair trade factories and track carbon offsets. Its boxer briefs are no exception.
MeUndies FeelFree Boxer Brief

MeUndies gained popularity with their his and her underwear sets. Whether or not that’s your thing, these FeelFree Boxer Briefs are undeniably soft and comfortable. And that pinch-free waistband is an excellent touch.
Again, all of their designs are made for men and women. As such, you can find the same pattern in a wide range of sizes. And boy, do they have some patterns. If you like funny or irreverent designs, check MeUndies out. And, of course, they have solids for those who prefer them.
Mack Weldon 18-Hour Jersey Boxer Brief

In my opinion, the Mack Weldon 18-Hour Jersey Boxer Brief is the most versatile underwear model. It’s made from cotton and modal, making it a jack of all trades.
It’s smooth and soft like silk but even more breathable. Thanks to modal’s tight weave, it’s also strong and long-lasting. Modal is also known for its absorbance and color-stay properties, meaning the hues will stay vibrant for a long time.
Pima Cotton Boxer Briefs
Because of its fandom, I wanted to isolate Pima cotton boxer briefs to their own category. The way I feel about silk pillowcases, I know many people feel towards Pima cotton underwear. And by that, I mean it’s the only way they’ll go.
Pima cotton fibers are half an inch longer than regular ones. This makes them silky, soft, smooth, and extra durable. You’ll find far fewer loose ends on a piece of Pima cotton. Moreover, they’re picked by hand so that only the best pieces are used.
2xist Pima Cotton Boxer Brief

The 2xist Pima Cotton Boxer Brief is almost like men’s lingerie. It has a snug fit and mid-rise, giving it a barely-there feel. Of course, it’s incredibly soft to the touch and breathable. This is a good option if you like extra support in the lap area. It’s one of the best pouch boxer briefs on the market because it balances softness with support.
Nth Degree Pima Cotton Boxer Brief

The Nth Degree Pima Cotton Boxer Brief boasts a four-way stretch, anti-microbial micro mesh, and a supportive pouch. Their pouch has patented technology that suspends everything, ensuring a comfortable, floating feel. This underwear moves with you, not against you, making it one of the easiest to move in.
They offer a modern, slimmer fit, or a relaxed “boxer” which isn’t as loose as a traditional boxer. It’s more like a slightly loose boxer brief.
Beau Ties LTD Pima Cotton Boxer Brief

The Beau Ties LTD Pima Cotton Boxer Brief is a truly bulk-free design. The soft pima cotton is infused with spandex, giving it a touch of stretch and airiness. The no-roll waistband and horizontal fly are also convenient touches. The ~$13 price point makes it a pretty high-value option, considering it’s made of the king of cotton fibers.
Athletic Boxer Briefs

As with any type of underwear, athletic boxer briefs need to be comfortable, well-fitted, and allow you to move. These features are especially important if you’re doing intense activities. Additionally and importantly, they need to be moisture-wicking, supportive, and keep you feeling fresh. Ventilation is key.
These are the best men for those jobs!
Lululemon Always in Motion Long Boxer Brief

The Lululemon AIM Boxer Brief is perfect for working out or sports. Not only is it made of quick-drying and comfortable modal, but it’s ergonomic too. Yes, you heard that right. Ergonomic underwear. Between its seven-inch length and optimally-spaced pouch, you get the support and softness you need for high-impact activities. Lululemon also offers the Always in Motion in a 5” version if you prefer less length.
Mack Weldon Airknit

Mack Weldon makes its third and final appearance (I told you I love them) with the Airknit Boxer Brief. It isn’t just moisture-wicking and odor-fighting, with targeted cool zones and stay-put legs. The lap area features a pouch, which adds security and support. This underwear is effective whether you’re deadlifting or playing soccer.
Tommy John Second Skin Boxer Brief

Thanks to the contoured pouch, this boxer brief promises “no adjustments needed. ” Tommy John is known for obsessing over details, so I’m not surprised they labored over an underwear pouch design.
It also comes with their “Quick Draw Fly” and anti-microbial fabric. If these features aren’t enough, Tommy John offers the Best Pair Guarantee that promises a refund on the first purchase you make with them if you’re unsatisfied.
Perfect for Lounging

I don’t like wearing athletic underwear when I’m lounging around at home in sweatpants or joggers. I prefer silk, cozy, or barely there models. Here are some quick options that pair well with your cozier pants and shorts.
The Nice Laundry Slim Fit Boxer is a middle-ground between a boxer brief and a boxer. So, if you need to leave the house for a bit, it isn’t so unsupportive that you’d need to change. Plus, it’s made of Pima cotton with stretch.
You can also go the silk route with SilkySilk Boxer Briefs or the ElleSilk model, which I love.
I noticed that the ElleSilk boxer briefs are always on sale (which is why I have so many pairs). So it makes me wonder how long they’ll be available, so I gave the SilkySilk option. I’ve heard good things about them. Silk is hypoallergenic, reduces friction, and is excellent for your skin and hair.
FAQs
Here are some commonly asked questions about boxer briefs and underwear in general!
Why Do So Many Guys Wear Boxer Briefs?
Boxer briefs are popular among guys because they’re a middle-ground between briefs and boxers. They aren’t as tight and short as briefs and aren’t as loose and unsupportive as regular boxer shorts.
What Is the Best Kind of Underwear for Guys?
Again, we’re not taking a medical perspective here, but the best kind of underwear is whatever you are most comfortable in. Boxer briefs are supportive and can be as loose or tight as you want. However, if you prefer a shorter fit, briefs are better. If you prefer a looser fit, boxers are best. Boxers or boxer briefs made from sensitive materials are good for guys who chafe easily.
Is It OK to Wear Boxer Briefs Every Day?
Yes, it’s okay to wear boxer briefs every day. Just don’t choose ones that are too tight or restricting, as they may compromise comfort and mobility and cause chafing.
Conclusion: The Right Men’s Boxer Briefs for You
When it comes to the best men’s boxer briefs, it’s a matter of lifestyle, priorities, and, of course, budget. I think Mack Weldon’s Silver line offers the most versatile models. Meanwhile, brands like Lululemon and Tommy John are infusing underwear with labored-over details and performance features, making it perfect for working out.

Great breakdown, I really appreciate it. Have you tried Kuhl boxer briefs? I have a couple pair and seem to have everything, soft, cool, don’t ride up and have soft rubber around bottom seam that keep them in place all day.
I have tried many of the above underwear but it seems like you really missed the best pair of boxer briefs on the market. Anchor Underwear boxers are so soft and also feature a threeway fly for easy access! I’m slowly changing out all of my current underwear for Anchor underwear.
Love the content Brock!
I’m a boxer brief aficionado and I have stopped at the Duluth mid length. To offset the higher price look for holiday sales before thanksgiving and Christmas. Can find them down to 12.50-15.50 per pair! The shorter ones are nice but tend to ride up. The mid length seems to feel like your going commando they fit so well. The Armichillo are all that as well. Thanks again! Happy Holidays and God Bless
I have tried many of the mens underwear listed above and came across a new brand Krakatoa, I need to tell you ,this is the best quality brand on the market. Brook I would like to get your opinion on these.
I prefer Uniqlo Supima bixer Brief.
I like Under Armour boxer briefs. They are lightweight and fit great.
Honestly, I have found American Eagle boxer briefs to be my favorite.Especially the longer length version. They don’t ride up and when they are on sale or clearance you can get them for next to nothing.
The problem I often have is the length is too long for me so they’re practically touching my knees. Which brands are best for short men?
Do you have recommendations on the best undershirts? I have the hardest time finding small, but not too short undershirts.
I also recommend uniqlo Airism and mesh underwear. They’re extremely affordable and so comfortable.
I’m surprised that you did not mention TommyJohn. I purchased two pairs and I really like them.
I’m with Flyman. No fly, no buy, and I don’t buy synthetics. Modal I would consider because I believe it’s made from plant fiber. The Costco Champion boxer briefs about 6 years ago were perfection. Champion then got bought out and changed the design and now they aren’t as long, stretchy, or tightly woven. I haven’t tried any high end merino boxer briefs but I do spend the extra money on merino long underwear since I work year round outdoors. Any suggestions would be welcomed.
All Citizens boxerbriefs are well worth a try — love them, huge fan of the H fly.
Love my uniqlo airism trunks!
Brock, how about some reviews on the different types from Mack Weldon?!
Brock, have you tried the Bonobos boxer briefs? Wondering what you think.
I haven’t, but in general, I’ve rarely been impressed with underwear from a brand that doesn’t specialize in the category.
What about uniqlo’s boxer briefs? I’ve heard good things about them
Yes. I agree.
Frankly, no fly no buy.
Absolutely agree, no fly, no buy.
