Crafted from white luxe Nappa leather with Vachetta leather insoles — these are high-quality sneakers. I wanted to see how well they hold up to real-life wear and tear.

Quick Take

Thursday premier high-tops are quality, affordably priced sneakers.

Construction & Aesthetic

These sneakers have a rubber sole and a leather upper. I ordered the white model, which has a beige leather lining and footbed.

I really like the look of these shoes. I’d never worn high-tops before, so I didn’t really know what to expect. When I’m wearing them, sometimes I forget I’m not wearing boots. To me, this Thursday model is kind of like a boot/sneaker hybrid.

I have the same problem with the premier high tops as I do with my Thursday Explorer boots — they’re quite difficult to put on and take off. Like the Explorers, the laces of these sneakers have to be loosened down to the fourth or fifth eyelet every time I take them off. This is definitely a pair of shoes that you’ll want to put on with a shoe horn.

Also, I wish the space between the eyelets was smaller. In other words, I’d prefer a smaller gap between the eyelets, so less of the laces and more of the leather upper were showing.

The leather upper creases quite easily. This doesn’t bother me, but I know that this really bugs some guys.

Other than these few minor things, I don’t have much to say by way of criticism for the high-tops.

These aren’t the kind of shoes that I’d wear to go hiking in the woods or for working outside. Therefore, they haven’t been through the wringer quite like my Thursday Explorers, but I’ve worn them enough to know that they’re quality shoes that’ll last.

Thursday High Top Sizing

I wear size 10.5 in running sneakers and 9.5 or 10 in dress shoes.

I ordered these high tops in size 10, and they fit great. This is the same size as my Thursday Scout Chukkas.

Wear & Tear

I’ve worn these shoes for about a month and a half and, besides the creasing, I haven’t noticed much wear to speak of.

The white laces have gotten a little bit dirty, but that’s a quick fix (just wash the laces in warm, soapy water).

My Recommendation

I’d recommend Thursday’s premier leather high-tops for guys who live in urban environments that are looking for a sleek pair of long-lasting high-top sneakers.

About Ryan Hallstrom

TMM's Senior Editor, Ryan Hallstrom is from Horseheads, NY, the only town in America named in honor of military packhorses. When he’s not writing about menswear, Ryan enjoys reading, whittling, running, and perfecting his penmanship.

Background: In 2021, Ryan graduated from Brigham Young University where he majored in American Studies and Russian. Before completing his schooling, he had a wide range of job titles including finish carpenter, usher, elevator operator (yes, that’s a real job), landscaper, tour guide, and more.

In January 2022, Ryan began working full-time as The Modest Man’s Senior Editor. In this role, he not only edits all articles prior to publication but also is a frequent contributor to the blog. He enjoys crafting in-depth product reviews (often testing items in extreme environments), helpful self-improvement articles, and detailed clothing guides.

His interest in men’s style stems from the examples of men in his family:

“Growing up, a lot of the men I looked up to dressed well. My dad is always clean-shaven and makes sure that he looks presentable before heading out the door, and my grandfather, who owned and operated a dairy farm, usually wore work pants with a sharp crease and a button-up work shirt.”

However, it wasn’t until the end of high school that Ryan began to care about how he looked. Gradually, over the next few years, he started to dress better and learn about style. “Finding clothes that fit helped me to become more confident. I find that when I try to dress well, I feel better.”

Expertise: Ryan has loved writing since an early age, and in college began contributing to and editing for university publications. After college, he began freelance writing and editing. He’s written from blogs and magazines such as Real Men Real Style, Life in the Finger Lakes, and Gentleman Within.

An avid traveler who spends plenty of time outdoors, Ryan appreciates clothes, footwear and accessories that can take a beating. His reviews often include long-term, thorough testing in extreme weather conditions.

Ryan has also spent more time in a suit and tie than most guys, so he's well qualified to write about classic menswear, business casual and formalwear.
